Atriko Hewinin will spend the next 17 years imprisoned at the Department of Corrections for sexually assaulting three victims over an eight-month period.
After trial in December 2020, a jury found Hewinin guilty of Third Degree Criminal Sexual
Conduct and Terrorizing against a 16-year-old.
Hewinin then pleaded guilty in two other cases to First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old and Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct for sexually assaulting an adult.
Yesterday, the court sentenced Hewinin to 17 years of imprisonment for all three cases. The stipulated sentencing required that the defendant waive his right to appeal the case that went to trial. The defendant must also register as a Level I Offender on the Sex Offender Registry and will remain there for the rest of his life.
Prosecutor Christine Tenorio said, “Because of the young victim’s courage during the jury
trial in December, the Defendant was held accountable for his other reprehensible acts and
none of the victims will have to relive the trauma that comes when a case goes up on
appeal. They will know he is locked away in jail for a long time.”
