No Deal Yet on DOE Superintendent Contract; Fernandez Unlikely to Start on June 1st, as Hoped

Guam – Incoming Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez has yet to sign a contract with the Guam Education Board. According to GEB Chairman Francis Santos a revised contract has been sent to Fernandez including changes made by board members during last week’s meeting.

That revised contract is currently under review by Fernandez.

Among the changes, Fernanadez’s salary was increased to $150,000 from $125,000 dollars.

Some perks Fernandez had requested of the board however were not offered.  A $1,500 dollar monthly housing allowance and a $500/month vehicle allowance were removed from the contract.

Santos previously said the target date to have Fernandez at DOE was June 1st but Monday he told PNC he does not think that date is realistic anymore.
