Six More Schools Will Benefit From Free Breakfast and Lunch

More public schools students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free in the upcoming school year thanks to a provision to the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

Last year, Guam Department of Education kicked off the program with 21 schools and this coming school year, DOE plans on expanding the program to these six schools: PC Lujan Elementary School, Daniel L Perez Elementary School, UPI Elementary School, Benavente Middle School, JP Torres Alternative School and Tiyan High School.

The Community Eligibility Provision, according to USDA’s website, allows schools that mostly serve low-income children to offer free school meals, instead of collecting individual applications for free and reduced price meals. The CEP uses information from other programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Temporary Assistance Program for Needy Families (TANF).
