Guam – Speaker Judi Won Pat used her weekly radio address to lay out the crises facing Chamorros through land, language and culture issues.
Won Pat said the military buildup will increase the population and present a threat to local culture. There has to be a unified effort she said to preserve all things Chamorro.
To that end, Won Pat says she will introduce a set of bills that will encourage more Chamorro language and cultural teachers by offering incentives to pay tuition at UOG or GCC. Another measure would give Chamorro teachers more equality in the school system and encourage the promotion of Guam’s history.
Won Pat also made the point that strengthening local culture will help strengthen tourism because visitors will be able to experience Guam’s culture through village participation.
