Guam – St. John’s School is celebrating “Read-A-Lot” for the month of February and have hosted a series of “Reading with Stars” sessions with its lower school students in the Learning Resource Center on campus.
“We are celebrating read-a-lot month that include weekly star guest readers for book reading sessions with our lower school students,” stated Margaret Becker. Becker is co-coordinator of the event and fourth grade teacher at St. John’s.
Guest appearances made Jui Jitsu instructor Megan Taitano with Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy Guam, Sammy the Shark and Kayle Tydingco with Under Water World. “The students had a great time with our guest readers that included reading session and interactive games related to the stories read,” said Becker. She adds that representatives from Guam Police Department are scheduled for next week’s session.
Becker emphasized on the importance of its reading program that rewards students who are competing for top reader, most improved reader and creative writing categories. “Home room teachers will award the winners with gift certificates donated from various businesses,” stated Becker.
Head of School Patricia Bennett stated, “I am proud of our students and teachers for the emphasis they place on reading across the grade levels!”
