Guam – Governor Eddie Calvo and Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio have proclaimed a state of mourning in honor of the late Jesus Chamorro Charfauros.
The long-time radio personality, songwriter and author was surrounded by family and friends when he died this past Wednesday, July 5.
Charfauros is credited with launching the Chamorro cultural renaissance and just last year at the UOG 2012 Spring Commencement Ceremony he received an honorary degree, a “Master of Micronesian Traditional Knowledge” in recognition of his lifetime of work promoting the Chamorro language and culture.
At that Commencement Ceremony UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood called Charfauros the greatest single contributor to the strength and vitality of the Chamorro language revival for over the last 50-years.
