Guam – The Department of Youth Affairs Correctional Facility in Maniglao is on lock-down after a disturbance Sunday afternoon that sent 1 juvenile and 2 staff members to GMH with minor injuries.
According to a brief release issued Monday evening by DYA the disturbance occurred Sunday afternoon about 4:30.
Acting DYA spokesperson William Castro reports it began when one juvenile reportedly splashed a cup of water into a cell of another during a routine dorm cleanup. “A confrontation ensued between the juveniles and others joined in.”
“Several juveniles” were involved and “one juvenile and two staff were treated at GMH for minor injuries.”

On Sunday, May 13, 2012 at approximately 4:15pm, several juveniles in the Youth Correctional Facility’s F-Unit were reportedly involved in a disturbance. The incident occurred right after outdoor recreation had ended, when one juvenile provoked another juvenile during a routine dorm cleanup. The juvenile allegedly splashed a cup of water into a cell as the other juvenile was conducting dorm cleanup. A confrontation ensued between the juveniles and others joined in.
Youth Correctional staff contained the situation immediately. One juvenile and two staff were treated at GMH for minor injuries. The entire YCF is currently on lockdown status pending an internal investigation. The case is also under investigation by GPD’s Juvenile Investigation Section.
