Guam – After receiving no applications for the Guam Department of Education Superintendent Position a week before the May 16, 2011 deadline, the Guam Education Board has decided to extend the deadline for applications to the end of June.

Current Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Underwood told the GEB Board in March that she does not wish to renew her contract when it expires in July.  GEB Search Committee Member Anita Borja Enriquez says with the extended application deadline, the position is also being advertised to off-island applicants.

Dr. Underwood also told the Board that she is willing to continue in her position until a worthy candidate is found.

As for the applicants, Borja Enriquez was not aware of any applications being submitted as of yet but Governor Calvo’s Chief Education Advisor Vince Leon Guerrero told PNC today that he does plan on submitting an application.  Senator Judi Guthertz was also rumored to be applying but she told PNC that she has not applied and did not suggest that she will be submitting an application either.
