Guam – Potential Candidates now have until March 16th to submit their applications for the Guam Department of Education Superintendent position.

The Guam Education Board this morning voted to extend the search for applicants after only one qualified candidate submitted a complete application by the previous deadline of January 31st.

Board member Joe San Augustine made a motion to borrow the Governor’s Liaison to Education, Vince Leon Guerrero, as the Interim Superintendent until a candidate is selected. Leon Guerrero was one of the applicants in the board’s first attempt to fill the position over the summer Board Member Anita Borja  Enriquez suggested that could result in a conflict of interest.

The motion failed with only San Augustine, Ronald Ayuyu, Barry Mead and Rosie Tainatongo voting in favor of the motion.  Taling Taitano will continue to serve as the Interim Superintendent.
