Guam- Guahan Napu Inc.and Monster Energy Drink announce that the second annual “Surf The Basin” surfing and body-boarding competition will be held Nov. 20 at Hagatna Boat Basin.
The contest will also feature a long-board surfing category this year. Other categories in Surf The Basin II include: men’s open surfing/body-boarding; men’s long-board surfing; and junior open surfing.
Registration for the contest is on Nov. 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Laguna Association pavilion at Paseo de Susana Statue of Liberty beach park.
Guahan Napu is holding a mandatory meeting on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Fishermen’s Co-op for its members and individuals who are interested to compete in the event. The meeting agenda will cover the contest details and distribution of the association’s selection criteria and the Guam National Olympic Committee’s Residency Guidelines pertaining to qualifications for the 2011 South Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
“Scores from Surf The Basin II competition will be aggregated with Rick’s Reef Classic IV scheduled for Jan. 23, 2011. After Rick’s Reef IV contest concludes, we will short list the top 10 surfers and five long-boarders for submission of their names to the GNOC for consideration,” said Willi Byerly, president, Guahan Napu Inc.
