(Barrigada, Guam –– Monday, Dec. 5, 2011) Guahan Napu Inc. and Monster Energy Drink today confirmed that the “Surf The Basin III” surfing and body-boarding competition will proceed on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Hagatna Boat Basin. The contest, originally scheduled on Nov. 26, was postponed due to poor wave conditions.
Willi Byerly, president, Guahan Napu Inc., said that the forecast for Dec. 10 promises wave sizes between three and five feet and side-shore winds of approximately 15 miles per hour.
The categories for Surf the Basin III are: Juniorsʼ Open Surfing for surfers ages 13 to 17; Longboard Open Surfing for longboard riders ages 18 and above; Body-Boarding Open for ages 18 and above; and Surfing (shortboard) Open for surfers ages 18 and above. The categories are all gender neutral.
Registration for the contest is Friday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Laguna Association pavilion at Paseo de Susana Statue of Liberty beach park.
Registration will not be accepted on contest day. Show up time is 6:00 a.m. and go time for first heats is 7:00 a.m.
Individuals who are interested to judge the competitions are welcome to contact Byerly. Guahan Napu will hold a second judges clinic at 7 p.m. in lower Barrigada Heights on Thursday, Dec. 8.
