Surfers to Pay Tribute to ‘Pottsie’

Guam –  The Guam surfing community recently lost their brother Michael Potts.  “Pottsie” as he is affectionately known as died on July 13 at the age of 63.

“I’ve known him since 1968 and he was a good friend and we’ve seen many changes in Guam together.  He was a happy, carefree personality and he was always there for the surfing community up until the last contest we just had.  He had a knack for forecasting the surf and helped out with banners and last minute items.  He will be greatly missed.  And over the years he’s become a really close friend,” said Willi Byerly, President of Guahan Napu, Inc.

The paddle-out memorial will take place at Rick’s Reef which is Mike’s favorite surf spot.  People will meet this Saturday, July 20, between 4:00pm-6:00pm and will paddle out at 6:15pm for a sunset memorial where Mike will be buried as well.  Those who wish to be a part of the paddle out memorial service are encouraged to bring their own leis or flowers.
