Surrounding households evacuated after unexploded ordnance found in Chalan Guaka, Yigo


Around 9:30 a.m., the Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) received a report of a found possible unexploded ordnance (UXO) located on Chalan Guaka Rd., Yigo.

The Guam Police Department is on scene and the Guam Fire Department has been notified. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit has been requested. The immediate area surrounding the possible UXO has been secured. The surrounding households in the immediate vicinity have been evacuated out of an abundance of caution. There are no road closures at this time.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.

GHS/OCD remind residents and visitors to practice the “3Rs of Explosive Safety” when any UXO or munition is encountered:

  • Recognize – when you may have encountered a munition and that munitions are dangerous.
  • Retreat – do not approach, touch, move, or disturb it, but carefully leave the area.
  • Report – call 911 and advise of what you saw and where you saw it.
