Cairns, Australia – Tamuning Typhoons Basketball are in Cairns, Australia challenging in the ECO Friendship Tournament. The gil’s lost the first day but the Co-ed team came out victorious.
The Tamuning Typhoons 14U boy’s and girl’s team ended their second day in Cairns, Australia with a bit of everything from the land of down under.
On their first day at Bendigo Bank Basketball Center (aka Fish Tank) they were wisked off to court number 3 to begin their two hour fundamental basketball clinic with Cairns professional players Travis Thorne and Matty Adekponya. “I had a great time with the Typhoons and see a lot of potential amongst them with the effort and energy they put out during the session,” stated Thorne after the clinic session.
On day two it was back to the Fish Tank for day one for opening game day in the ECO Friendship games hosted by the Timberwolves club.
The 4:30pm game the 14U Lady Timberwolves outscored the Lady Typhoons for the win 63-12. Top scorer fore the Timberwolves was Zariah Luki with 13 points. Typhoons Kali Benavente scored all 12 points for the team in the loss. “The Typhoon girls racked up 20 plus rebounds on the offensive end but could not connect with the basket to finish that we will continue to work on for the next game,” said Assistant Coach Joshua Mendiola. He added overall they played with heart and tenacity.
In the 5:30pm game the 14U Typhoons took the win against the Timberwolves 43-20. A full court press in the first half with the starting five Kali Benavente, Scott Ulloa, Philip Caguioa, Jeremie Dizon and Chino Cruz worked against the younger Timberwolves as they got a quick 10 point lead at the start of the game. Typhoons Dizon and Caguioa scored 10 points a piece for the win while Timberwolves Daniel Charlesworth scored five points in the loss.
The Typhoons head back to the Fish Tank for their second day of games matching up against the All Stars 14U Boys and Girls Club teams starting at 4:30 and 5:30pm respectively.
