The Guam Department of Revenue & Taxation (DRT) has announced that the 2022 tax filing season has officially begun today. People can and, depending on earnings for the year 2021, must file their income taxes anytime from today to Monday, April 18, 2022.

In the past, DRT Director Dafne Mansapit-Shimizu expressed that DRT recommends Guam residents file 1040 forms online; unfortunately, on K57 last week Friday, their online filing system will not be operational today.

Furthermore, this filing season, certain taxpayers will have the option to receive refunds by direct deposit. DRT is working with the Department of Administration (DOA) to launch direct deposits of refunds for the first time for the 2021 tax season.

Modified Walk-In

DRT is still working to prepare the e-filing program, said Mansapit-Shimizu. DRT will advise the community at a later date once online filing is available. For now, DRT will accept in-person filing at a modified “walk-in” process.

“We will not have, like we [had] last year, a drive-thru,” she said. “We will have a walk in. We have already set up is a tent at the front of our building.”

Staff will be stationed to distribute 1040 forms as well as to accept the tax filing forms that do not require payment. Otherwise, filers will have to proceed to the Guam Treasury for payment.

Mansapit-Shimizu states, “Our walk-in will be available from Monday to Friday next week from 8-5 and we are excited about this year’s tax season.”
