Timmica Nauta murder trial starts today

Brandon Michael Acosta, left, is charged with allegedly raping and murdering 15-year-old Timicca Nauta.

The Timmica Nauta murder trial will begin today. It’s anticipated to continue through next week.

It took the court two days to select an impartial jury for the trial of the accused, Brandon Michael Acosta. Word of the impaneled jury came down late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Judiciary Acting Spokeswoman Geraldine Cepeda, opening statements will begin early Thursday morning.

Acosta is accused of raping and stabbing to death the 15-year-old in 2018 at her Chalan Koda Dededo home. He is charged with aggravated murder, home invasion and criminal sexual conduct.

Following Acosta’s arrest, court documents quoted him as saying he did not intend to kill Nauta, calling it a mistake and that “after praying, he believes his spirit has been set free since he has confessed his sins.”

Acosta made these revelations while confined at the Department of Corrections on burglary charges which occurred around the same time Nauta was slain.
