The Roadwork Ahead: MONDAY December 10 – SUNDAY December 16

Guam – The Guam Department of  Public Works has released the following list of road construction projects that may cause traffic delays in the week ahead.

For the week of December 10 to December 16

Route 1/ 8 (Hagatna Bridges)
Motorists traveling on Route 1 between Route 8 and Route 4 are advised to expect some delays during peak travel hours in the mornings and evenings and to seek alternative routes and/or adjust drive times when feasible as heavy equipment will be moving construction materials within the work zone. The contractor will be constructing the foundations for the Hagåtña Bridge and the lane shifts and detours are for the safety of all motorists.

The DPW thanks the public for their patience and advises all motorists to please proceed with caution through the area and to obey all traffic signs and/or flagmen.

Route 1/11 (Port Authority Road)
Continuing through Monday December 10, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., drivers traveling southbound on Route 1 will experience lane shifts at the Route 1/11 intersection in Piti as contractors perform work on the Route 11 southbound ramp. Northbound drivers on Route 1 will be limited to a single through-lane in the northbound direction as the inner northbound through-lane temporarily becomes a left-turn lane.

Beginning Tuesday December 11 and continuing through Thursday, December 13 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., drivers traveling southbound on Route 1 will encounter lane shifts as contractors perform work on the Route 1 median area.   Northbound drivers on Route 1 will continue to be limited to a single through-lane in the northbound direction as the inner northbound through-lane temporarily remains a designated left-turn lane.

Beginning Friday December 14 and continuing through Sunday, December 16 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., drivers traveling southbound on Route 1 will encounter lane shifts as contractors perform work on the Route 1 southbound outer lane approaching the westbound Route 11 on-ramp.   Northbound drivers on Route 1 will be unaffected during this time period.

Asphalt paving is scheduled to occur along Route 11 on Monday, December 10 at various locations between the Industrial Avenue intersection and the Route 1/11 intersection between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.   Two-way traffic will be maintained during the paving work although motorists can expect to encounter lane shifts and narrowed lanes.

The intersection at Industrial Avenue and Route 11 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic through Monday, December 10.  The intersection will be reopened to two-way traffic beginning Tuesday, December 11.

Route 4 Ylig Bridge (Yona)
Route 4 at the temporary Ylig Bridge will be completely closed to all but emergency vehicles for four 30-minute intervals beginning at approximately 1:30 a.m., 2:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. occurring daily from December 8 through December 12. During this period, bridge girders will be off-loaded from a transport vehicle and erected upon the bridge. Motorists are advised to observe the posted speed limit and all construction signs.

Route 4 (Pago Bay to Route 17)
Paving operations will continue this week on the hill between the Pago Bay development and the overlook. Weather permitting, from December 15 to December 23, motorists may experience possible temporary lane closures and traffic delays at various locations while construction crews install utility crossings and reconstruct the asphalt pavement.

Motorists should expect minor delays when travelling through this area and are asked to use caution and to observe all construction signs and posted speed limits

Route 7A
Construction is nearly complete on Route 7A.  Motorists may encounter temporary lane shifts between Routes 4 and 8 as the contractor installs the remaining pavement markings and performs minor adjustments on the new roadway through December 16.

Route 17 Cross Island Road (Talofofo)
Work continues on Route 17 as the contractor places pavement markers and completes other minor works along the roadway. Motorists may experience temporary lane shifts and minor delays when travelling through this area and are asked to use caution and observe all construction signs and posted speed limits.

Taleyfak Spanish Bridge
Motorists travelling in this area can expect brief delays while the contractor continues to work in this area. Please be aware of safety personnel directing traffic as construction equipment moves across the road or trucks enter or exit the job site.
