A pig hunting derby will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

The Department of Agriculture (DOAG), with the Offices of Senator Clynt Ridgell, Speaker Tina Muna Barnes, and Senator Pedo Terlaje are pleased to announce a FREE COVID-19 Pig Hunting Derby that will take place this Saturday and Sunday on May 30 & 31.

Hikers, please do not hike in the jungles or trails this weekend to avoid any potentially dangerous encounters.

Residents who would like to receive a pig, please contact your mayor. Please understand that accepting the meat is completely voluntary and at the consumer’s risk. Wild pigs have viruses, bacteria, and/or parasites that will cause illness if not properly handled. Waivers of Liability must be signed prior to accepting the meat. The Government of Guam and our partners in the 2020 Pig Hunting Derby will not assume liability for any negative reactions that may occur. Safe Handling Guidelines will be provided to all hunters and residents who choose to accept meat. All meat will be refrigerated prior to distribution.

Matson, who has been a derby supporter for several years, has offered a refrigerated container, to be installed in Talofofo. This will serve as one Check Station. APL, eager to provide community support, will be providing a refrigerated container in Yigo, as the second Check Station. We are grateful to our partners!

Derby Registration forms are distributed through social media and the DOAG website. Safety Briefings and registration for those without digital access will be held Friday May 29 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at DOAG in Mangilao. On the days of the hunts, the Derby Check-Out/In stations will be open from 4:30 am to 8:00 pm. Hunters without a current license will be issued a Special No-Cost License for the two-day event.

Hunters, please visit doag.guam.gov under Resources, then Forms to download the registration packet. You may fill out the forms and email signed copies to wildlife@doag.guam.gov . The packet is also distributed via Whatsapp through hunting groups. Hard copies of completed registration packets may be dropped off to DOAG in the two-story David Limtiaco building.

Everyone must bring a valid picture ID. A Firearms ID is required if you are hunting with a firearm. Minors need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Please provide identification proof at the time of registration. Masks and social distancing will be enforced at registration, safety briefings, and at the check station. The 2020 Covid-19 Pig Hunting Derby is funded under the Guam Hunter Education Program, through a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wildlife and Sportfish Restoration Grant Program.
