Guam – FESTPAC officially came to a close Saturday evening.
Thousands of island residents attended Saturday’s closing ceremonies for FESTPAC. Some residents lined up since the morning just to get into closing ceremonies. The Festival of The Pacific Arts and Culture drew thousands of people from throughout Oceania to Guam. During the opening ceremonies each island delegation gave a gift to the Governor that represented something from their culture. In the closing ceremony the Governor gave a gift to Guam’s parting guests which consisted of a carved wooden latte stone. Members of Guam’s delegation also made a political statement when they unfurled a banner that read: Decolonize Oceania; Free Guahan.
