Three Investors Turn in Proposals to Modernize DOE Schools

Just a month ago at an oversight hearing for GDOE, DPW told lawmakers that the renovations for Simon Sanchez High School, at the best scenario, would begin in December 2016.

Guam – The Department of Public Works received three proposals to renovate Simon Sanchez High School and to modernize the rest of the Guam Department of Education schools.

The offerers are the Guam Educational Facilities Foundation, Pernix Guam, and Core Tech International. The deadline for companies to respond to the $100-million dollar Request for Proposal was Monday.

According to the release, DPW has recommended the committee make a decision within 20 days of the final submissions.

Department of Public Works Deputy Director Felix Benavente said after they receive the offers, they will then pass them on to the selection committee whose chairman is none other than the GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez. The committee also includes leadership from the Department of Public Works, Department of Land Management, Guam Environmental Protection Agency, and the Guam Economic Development Authority.

Governor Eddie Calvo says this level of investment into our schools is unprecedented and he is confident that the committee will choose the best company to get the job done.
