Guam – Yesterday afternoon, three male clients from the Department of Youth Affairs attempted to escape the department’s correctional facilities in Mangilao, but were later apprehended.

According to DYA’s Public Information Officer Danielle Camacho, 16 male clients were being escorted by two guards from the galley to another unit.

But around 12:19 pm, three male individuals –all minors– darted from the escort line and made a run for the facility’s surrounding fence.

Two of the individuals successfully climbed over the fence, taking cover in the nearby vegetation.

But one client was quickly apprehended by a guard after failing to get over the fence line and subsequently, snagging his left arm on the concertina wire. He was taken to the hospital for medical attention. About 30 minutes later, the remaining two suspects were later apprehended and brought back into DYA custody.

The facility has since been placed on lock down and GPD has charged all three minors with escape.
