Tiyan emergency food distribution delayed to 8:30 am Thursday morning

Guam’s rescheduled emergency food distribution date was set for Thursday morning but GDOE staff hit a snag at the Tiyan location.

The Department of Education says service will begin later than planned at 8:30 am, instead of 6 am, because overnight a 40-foot container was leaning against a power pole and there’s a sinkhole under it.

For safety, GDOE said equipment was needed to address the issue, thus the delay in the start time at the Tiyan Upper Baseball Field.

Dededo, however, was not affected or delayed.

Residents heading to the Dededo Farmer’s Market were still able to collect their food from 6 am to 10 am, or until food ran out.

Every household will only receive one distribution and staff on site will be tracking names so people don’t double-dip and come back another time in the same day.

After a last-minute cancellation last Thursday, the Department of Education rescheduled the giveaway for today, Thursday, July 30, citing delays in products and commodities due to shipping.

Another distribution is set for August 6.
