Tiyan High and Southern High Graduation Plans Still Uncertain

GDOE will be working with the Fest Pac Planning Committee.

Guam – The Guam Department of Education is still working out the graduation plans for Southern High School and Tiyan High School.

Southern High and Tiyan High were designated to house delegates for the Festival of the Pacific Arts. However, both high schools also plan to hold their commencement ceremonies at their campuses while Fest Pac is taking place. GDOE Acting Deputy Superintendent Chris Anderson says for those days as well as for the graduation rehearsals, the department and the Fest Pac Planning Committee will have to find a way to maintain high security for the delegates and provide access for the public to utilize the gym and parking lot at the same time.

Anderson explains, “Of course Fest Pac understands that these schools belong to the students and parents and they fully understand and respect that graduations were planned to be in these facilities. Whatever the parking  requirement is going to be for the graduation, we’re just going to have to find that work but as far as I know there was no official plan as to parking at Agat Marina or someplace much further away from Southern High School and then have to be transported by bus. We’re not going to make this inconvenient.”
Anderson says they will be working closely with the Fest Pac planning committee in the coming weeks.
