The Guam Department of Education just opened up a new gym for the Tiyan High School titans!!!
Guam – The Tiyan High Titans now have a gym they can call their own!
After almost a year of planning and construction, GDOE and contractor CoreTech International cut the ribbon for the Tiyan High School’s $14.4 million dollar gymnasium. The 17-thousand sq. ft. gym is equipped with woodern flooring with the Titans logo, a full-length basketball court, locker rooms, a built-in stage, scoreboards and a seating capacity of 800.
GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez says, “Here it is. Brand new gym. The gym you asked for and needed to be a true high school. There may be a lot more work to do do but here is part one of that new investment in the facilities here in Tiyan High School so I’m here to say congratulations. Thank you for being a part of the Tiyan High community and thank you for being supportive of each other and really creating an identity that we can be proud of.”
In celebration of the gym opening, the Titans held a free-throw challenge between GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez and Governor of Guam Eddie Calvo.
Governor Eddie Calvo says this is only the first of many projects. He says he will be working with GDOE and the Guam Legislature to continue to improve the Tiyan campus. He says, “For all you students, you have my commitment, I will be working with GDOE and the Legislature. You haven’t see anything yet. We’ve had a discussion about a track field. What is a campus without the athletics, the dances, and also a nice football and soccer field.”
