Trial to resume in sexual assault case

Trial will resume next week for a man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor.

The trial of Roponei Sohlanse Jr. will resume early next week as jurors in the case reported for duty yesterday.

Because the trial was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic several months ago, jurors in the case are reviewing the playback of testimony provided to refresh their memories.

Playback should be completed by Friday, with the jury trial tentatively set to commence either Monday or Tuesday next week.

Roponei is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor for three years and allegedly continuing the assaults after the minor reported him to police.

Roponei is on trial for offenses of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct all as first degree felonies.
