There are no watches or warnings in effect for the Marianas at this time. Although a direct impact is not expected for the Marianas based on the latest forecast.

Malakas is expected to turn toward the northwest today and steadily intensify over the next few days. It will continue to strengthen as it passes over the islands of Yap State, and could become a typhoon by early Sunday morning.

In a NewsTalk K57 interview, Meteorologist for National Weather Service Landon Aydlett has said he doesn’t think this storm is going to cause too much damage to canopies and tarps, but secure them as a precautionary measure.

He added that typhoon shutters will not be needed.

But those living in flood-prone areas should prepare; clear drainage areas and unblock clogged storm drains in your area to minimize flooding and watch for any additional advisories.
