That means it’s packed with maximum sustained winds already at 39 to 73 miles per hour.

According to National Weather Service Senior Forecaster Mike Middlebrooke, it appears the storm will be passing north of Guam.

SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

It is northeast of Pohnpei right now and by the time it gets near us, he says, the storm should be getting close to becoming a typhoon so expect rain and winds starting Sunday.

Middlebrooke explains, “The chances of typhoon conditions at this point is less than 50 percent but there’s still that possibility. It appears that the storm will be passing north of Guam.”

He says because there’s still that uncertainty, residents should prepare for the worst case scenario.
