Typhoon Mawar is now a super typhoon as it approaches Guam, according to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam.
As of 5:53 p.m. May 23, Mawar is 155 miles southeast of Guam with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.
Mawar is moving north at 5 mph. It is expected to make a turn toward the northwest with little change in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Guam and Rota. Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected late this evening, with the onset of typhoon force winds forecast for Wednesday morning.
Satellite estimates show that Mawar has become a Super Typhoon as it approaches Guam.
Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 25 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 100 miles.
