Typhoon Nangka is moving closer to NMI at 17 MPH

Guam – As the Typhoon Nangka is approaching closer to the Northern Mariana Islands, the National Weather Service issued Typhoon Watch for Saipan and Tinian.

According to the latest update on Nangka, the typhoon was moving at about 17 MPH with Maximum Sustained Winds of 140 MPH. About Nangka, NWS comments, “Typhoon Nangka is a severe threat to the Northern Mariana Islands and is about 250 miles east of Saipan,” In its Area Forecast Discussion realsed on 4:14PM (CHST).

The Weather Service says that because Nangka moved more towards west than expected today, Saipan and Tinian weather forecast changed, and writes, “Any deviation in the actual track of Nangka will make a big difference in its effects on the Marianas and it will need to be watched closely hour-by-hour.”

Besides the Typhoon Watch in effect on Saipan and Tinian, a Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Agrihan, Pagan and Alamagan Islands. Also High Surf Advisory and Small Craft Advisories in effect on all of the Marianas were extended to expire on Friday 6PM (CHST).
