Guam – United Airlines signed a “Buy Local” Commitment Friday morning at United’s headquarters in Tiyan.
The “Buy Local” initative is sponsored by the Guam Chamber of Commerce, the Guam Economic Development Authority, and the University of Guam Pacific Center for Economic Initiatives.
The Buy Local Commitment is a company’s pledge to “Think Local, Support Local, Buy Local.” Think local would ask companies to think about a local product, company, or organization before any other, Support Local by contributing to major non-profit organizations on island, and Buy Local by shifting at least 10% of a company’s on-line or off-island purchase to local businesses whenever possible. This small shift to buy local positively impacts the economy.
“We are happy to have United Airlines join the Buy Local Movement, as it shows their support and dedication to Guam’s community,” says Jay Rojas, Chairman of the Chamber’s Ad Hoc Committee on Buy Local. “As one of the island’s largest companies, United’s commitment to buy local supports the growth of other local companies as well.”
