UOG Awards Merit Scholarship to 58 High School Graduates

58 Merit scholars are moving on to bigger things. Today, they decided they will be attending college at the University of Guam with their tuition and fees fully covered.

Guam – The University of Guam holds a special orientation every year before the start of the Fall semester for the top graduates from the island’s public and private high schools.

At this morning’s event, UOG officials awarded the Merit Scholarship to 58 high school graduates and they held an orientation to get the soon-to-be-UOG students familiar with the college. Financial Aid Director Mark Duarte says the Merit Scholarship covers the student’s full tuition and fees for four years which equates to about $50-thousand dollars. UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood gave the scholars a motivational speech.

UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood says, “What marks an educated person from a non-educated person is that an educated person is able to engage the world from a position of strength. No one can bs you, no ones going to give you a policy that you don’t question, no ones going to give you an opportunity that you don’t appreciate. That’s the world and since you’re at the top of this academic preparation, you’re expected to do more.”
