The University of Guam’s newspaper the Triton’s Call celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend with a special ceremony.
Guam – UOG Alumni and also Past and Present Triton’s Call writers gathered at the Latte of Freedom to commemorate the college newspaper’s anniversary, but also to reminisce and see how the Triton’s Call evolved over the years. Dr. Lilnabeth Somera says the event was put together by the UOG Communication Honor Society Lamba Pi Eta and the Communication Department.
Triton’s Call Editor in Chief John Mugo says, “We’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Triton’s Call. It was established in 1965 as a student-run newspaper and throughout the years, the Triton’s Call has produced successful journalists in the field of Communication.”
UOG Professor Dr. Lilnabeth Somera says, “There are some here from the 90s, before the digital time took off, how they had to log the entire computer over to the PDN to submit the files because there was no such thing as file transfer or all the things we now take for granted with digital publishing, websites and the Internet.”
Somera says the Communication students did a great job with planning the event and was very happy with the turn out. Check out the latest issue of Triton’s Call on their Triton’s Call Facebook Page.
