The University of Guam Women’s College Varsity Volleyball Team, the Tritons, won their 3rd straight Guam Women’s College Volleyball League Championship on Saturday in the UOG Calvo Field House with a 3-0 victory over the Tridents, the UOG Recreation program club team.
The match sets were all played in similar fashion, the Tritons and the Tridents would trade points in the early portions of each set and with the game tied 5-5 or 6-6, the Tritons would move to a 7-8 point lead in the middle game and then the Tritons would become a bit more dominant closing out each set, as the Tritons won 25-17, 25-13 and 25-9.
The Tridents finished the season with a 4-4 record and a 13-18 record in sets, but the Tridents were 4-1 against Guam Community College and Pacific Islands University, the other two teams in the league.
The Tritons were 8-0 for the season with a 24-1 record in sets, with the lone set loss coming to Guam CC in a 25-27 set the first time both teams met in the regular season.
In 3 seasons, the Tritons are 24-0 in the league and have claimed all three championships. The Tridents have finished 2nd twice in the league, while not having a team for one season.
