UPDATE: official statements on Xavier Akima’s passing


Guam – The Guam Fire Dept. has issued the following text message on the discovery of teenage boy Xavier Akima’s lifeless body:

Shortly after 1700 [5:00 p.m.], in a joint effort with Guam Fire Department, Guam Police Department, Guam  Army National Guard, HSC-25, volunteer rescuers from the USCG [United States Coast Guard…and OCD/HSA [Office of Civil Defense/Homeland Security], the body of the missing hiker was located. The 15-year-old male was found approximately 1.5 miles inland from Pago Bay Bridge.

On hearing the news, the Office of the Governor had this to say:

Governor Calvo and Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio are asking the community to join them in prayer for the Akima family. “As parents and grandparents, First Lady Christine and I cannot begin to imagine the heartbreak the Akima family is feeling. They are in our thoughts and prayers,” the Governor stated. “Our deepest condolences go to Xavier’s family. In this time of tragedy, we pray that God would bring his family and his friends strength and comfort,” Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio added. Eternal rest, grant unto Xavier, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
