Out of 21 candidates this year, Canar took home the title of GDOE Teacher of the Year.
Guam – The Guam Department of Education announced the 2016 Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to UPI Elementary School 3rd Grade Teacher Mrs. Gracelle Canar!
Out of six finalists, Canar was awarded Teacher of the Year at a special gala last night hosted by the Foundation for Public Education. According to a release, Canar’s accomplishment brings great distinction to herself, her school, and GDOE. Every year, teachers are nominated by parents, students, fellow teachers, or administrators for Teacher of the Year. GDOE Deputy Superintendent Erika Cruz said that this year, they received 67 nominations and 21 candidates who accepted the nominations. After a panel of judges conducted interviews and evaluated the teachers, six teacher finalists were selected. The 2016 Teacher of the Year finalists were also recognized for their service to students and for exemplifying greatness from the department.
