Guam –  A U.S. Marine Corps KC-130J Super Hercules aircraft from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 is assisting U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam in the search for overdue mariners in the vicinity of Chuuk Island, Federated States of Micronesia.  A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Honolulu is also en route to aid in the search.

At 3:17 P.M. on Tuesday, Coast Guard Sector Guam received a report from Federated States of Micronesia that a 23-foot skiff with two persons onboard was overdue from Nomwin Atoll to Weno, Chuuk Island.  The two men, ages 24 and 32, departed Sunday morning, and were expected to complete their 69-mile trip that evening.

According to a reporting source, the two mariners did not have any signaling devices or safety gear aboard their vessel.

The search will continue throughout the day, and will resume on Thursday morning.
