U.S. Department of Education officials are on island, visiting several Guam Department of Education public schools with head start programs to ensure the island’s largest government of Guam agency is in compliance with federal regulations.

As part of its annual routine checkup, USDOE personnel are visiting school sites that federally fund head start programs, ensuring that GDOE is meeting requirements to run such programs.

The federal education department is conducting assessments like checking if GDOE’s human resources division are conducting background checks such as finger scanning of potential employees, prior to employment.

Judith Won Pat, the acting superintendent of GDOE, told the Pacific News Center that this follows an incident reported of a head start student straying off from the restroom.
