COVID-19 vaccines may soon reach the CNMI, according to government officials.
CNMI officials earlier reported that the government is expecting a shipment of Pfizer vaccines on the 23rd of this month.
According to CNMI COVID-19 Task Force Chairman Warren Villagomez, the distribution of the vaccine is being finalized. They are also awaiting emergency use authorization for the Pfizer vaccines.
CNMI officials were contacted by the White House in late August about the possibility of distributing COVID-19 vaccines all over the commonwealth. Initially, they were eyeing a January 2021 date for the distribution.
The CNMI’s vaccine distribution program is part of Operation Warp Speed.
The federal program seeks to produce and deliver safe and effective vaccines as part of a broader national strategy to accelerate the development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are part of the national initiative.
