A group of veterans hosted a foot march and bike ride early this morning to commemorate Guam’s Liberation Day and to raise awareness about veteran suicide and combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder.
Veteran organization Got Your 671 co-organized the event with the Freedom Grinderz — a local cycling group whose members include those who served in the Guam Army and Air National Guard.
Got Your 671 is a diverse community of veterans unified in their mission to work towards strengthening the veteran community and creating a positive lifestyle.
The 22-mile march/bike ride started from the front gate of the Andersen Air Force Base and ended at the Ypao Beach Park in Tumon.
According to the event organizers, the 22-mile march represents the national average number of veteran suicides per day.
