Guam- Shopping carts were filled with toys Thursday morning as the Veterans of Guam Motorcycle Club purchased one thousand dollars worth of gifts for Toys for Tots.
Veterans and Marines lined up at the K-mart check out counters, eager to show their support for this Marine Corps program. Outgoing President Joe Moore says motorcycle club members decided money raised at a prior fundraiser would be used to help less fortunate children.
“We decided to donate half of our proceeds to a worthy cause like this, which is the Toys for Tots” said Moore. “So we’re donating one thousand dollars of this thing and we hope to do more of that in the future. We just want to give back to the community.”
Captain Julienne Shin adds the gifts will help the marines reach their goal for this year.
“Our mission is to make sure each child receives one brand new toy” remarked Shin. “So we are trying to reach a goal of two thousand, which I think we have. And we are going to be taking these over to the Salvation Army on Monday, which is our last day of pickup.”
The veterans will be escorting the Marine Corps with all the toys to the Salvation Army this Monday at 2 p.m.
