Guam -In yet another letter to Guam Fire Chief Dave Paredo, Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz applauded the Guam Fire Department for submitting its
application for the SAFER Grant on time.
In a release, Cruz points out that GFD has had problems in the past with its grants management program.
He states that the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations in order to help them increase the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities.
The goal of SAFER is to enhance the local fire departments’ abilities to comply with staffing, response and operational standards established by the NFPA and OSHA (NFPA 1710 and/or NFPA 1720 and OSHA 1910.134).
The release quotes the Vice-Speaker as saying that: “Grants like these are especially beneficial to our island as we are faced with limited resources. It is critical that we pursue all financial options and resources at this time, given GFD’s track record in securing grant awards.”
