Guam – Vice-Speaker B.J. Cruz has called an oversight hearing of the Department of Administration after DOA failed to respond to his requests for information surrounding GovGuam’s ability to pay the Calvo’s Selectcare health plan for GovGuam employees.

The hearing was originally called for next Monday May 9th, but will be re-scheduled for the week of May 16th because DOA Director Benita Manglona will be ioff island on the originally scheduled date.

Vice-Speaker Cruz says he also wants to find out why the previous administration was able to pay our $16 million in tax refunds during the first quarter of this year while the current administration has only paid out six million during the second quarter. Senator Cruz says he has also found some serious errors in DOA’s expenditure reports.

“They have like $19 million dollars worth of bank fees which I think a decimal is missing someplace and then this very last month they’re negative fifteen million because somehow their expenditure was $21 million dollars for the month again, I think there’s a decimal (missing)…. I’m very concerned because they are in charge of the bank book because if they can’t keep their own office bank book correct we’re in real trouble,” said Senator Cruz.

The vice-speaker says he hopes to get to the bottom of these and other financially related concerns.
