Vice Speaker Files FOIA Request Seeking GFD Grant Application Info

Guam –  Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz has filed a Freedom of Information Request [FOIA] seeking copies of grant applications and communications between GFD, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of the Interior.

In a release the Speaker says he has filed the request because “repeated requests for information regarding the Guam Fire Department’s grant applications have been ignored.”

Senator Cruz states he has been working for months trying to assist GFD in securing the funding it needs to augment its ambulance fleet.

Cruz says in the course of that work, he discovered that grant applications submitted by GFD were denied due to failure to properly account for prior grant awards. Cruz’s FOIA request is related to those and other grant applications.

(October 14, 2010 – Hagåtña, Guam)  Because repeated requests for information regarding the Guam Fire Department’s grant applications have been ignored, Vice Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz sent a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain copies of grant applications and communications between GFD, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of the Interior.  

Vice Speaker Cruz has been working for months to assist GFD to secure funding needed to augment its ambulance fleet. In the course of this work, Cruz discovered from GFD documents that grant applications submitted by GFD were denied due to failure to properly account for prior grant awards.
