Guam – Vice-Speaker B.J. Cruz has called a hearing on a measure to create a Commission to recommend ways to reduce GovGuam’s annual deficits and to deliberate on the confirmation of the Calvo administration’s Director-designee for the Department of Administration.
In preparation for the hearing, Cruz met with DOA Director-designee Gener Delequina this afternoon [Wednesday] and raised concerns over a recent pronouncement by the Office of the Attorney General that bonuses proposed to be to be given to certain government employees late last year were not consistent with the law.
Cruz received a letter from then Attorney General John Weisenberger late last week indicating that bonuses to be given under a Special Achievement Awards Program by the Department of Public Health and Social Service were not appropriate.
Cruz also urged the new Administration’s continued support of efforts in the Legislature to create deficit reduction commission, as introduced under Bill No. 3 on Monday.
The hearing takes place at 10 a.m. – January 19, 2011 at the Legislature’s Public Hearing Room in Hagåtña.
