Guam – A roundtable discussion on the Guam Medical Referral office Monday night drew testimony from a number of people concerned about the limitations of the service which provides off island medical referrals and transportation to qualified residents.

The Medical Referral office has a budget of just over $600-thousand dollars annually but its client list is growing and it has become increasingly difficult to meet the need.

Senator Dennis Rodriguez called the hearing to discuss alternatives that he hopes may make the service more efficient, but aAministrator Jesse Atlig felt now is not a good time for change.

Senator Rodriguez has suggested modelling the Guam Medical Referral Office on similar services provided by other private medical organizations like the American Cancer Society which he said seems to be able to offer more services for the same amount of money, or less.
