Guam – Some of the Agana Pool lights have been fixed to allow the facility to extend its hours of operation for the public once again.
The pool had to reduce its hours for several months while the Department of Parks and Recreation determined the exact cause of why the lights were not working. Funding was also an issue to conduct the repair work. However, Parks and Rec Director Ray Blas says Micronesian Divers Association (MDA) President Lee Webber donated his services to at least fix some of the lights. Although the lighting isn’t as bright, Blas says it is enough to keep the pool open into the evening hours.
“Now it’s open up til 7:30 in the evening, so that will help us out,” said Blas. “So we’re still trying to work on the other lights, but thanks to Mr. Lee Webber, I really appreciate the help he gave to Parks and Rec.”
MDA is also now utilizing the pool to conduct dive lessons. Blas adds the Agana Pool and tennis court are expected to close in August for much needed renovation work. Funding has been dedicated from the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) bonds for these projects. Blas notes $150 thousand dollars has been set aside for the pool and another $150 thousand dollars will go towards the tennis court.
