Saipan – An autopsy of the couple found dead in their burnt out home Sunday night has concluded that they died of smoke inhalation.
The dead man has been identified as 40 year old Guo Huang Xu. The woman is identified 38 year old Qing Xiu Zheng. Both are “Chinese” and both bodies were “completely charred” as a result of the fire, according to a release from Saipan Police. They couple were farmers. They had been living in the As Gonno area of Saipan for the past 2 years.
Guam Medical Examiner Dr. Aurileo Espinola performed the autopsy and found no evidence of blunt force trauma on the man, Guo Huang Xu.
Police initially said that it appeared that Xu had suffered a blow to the head.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Travis Hurst, told the Saipan Tribune Wednesday that the Commonwealth Bureau of Investigation still believes that arson was involved in the case and the deaths are still classified as homicides.
