Guam – FB Leon Guerrero Middle School was hit in yet another copper theft Thursday night.
Thursday night’s theft left 45 classrooms at FBLG without airconditioning. Five classrooms at Simon Sanchez High School were also affected as the two schools share power sources.
But Department of Education Maintenance Manager Billy Cruz tells PNC that this latest theft at FBLG was the largest to date with between 4,500 and 5,000 feet of copper wire taken.
FBLG has been hit twice in the past two weeks. Finegayan Elementary School has been hit 2 times.
And in all, four DOE schools have reported copper wire thefts within the last few weeks.
They are DL Perez Elementary School (1x), Finegayan Elementary School (2x), FB Leon Guerrero Middle School (2x)and Simon Sanchez High School (1x).
Cruz estimates that the thefts have cost DOE more than $21,000 in supplies and materials not including the latest theft.
The number for Guam Crime Stoppers is 477-HELP or 477-4357.
