Guam – 36-year old Emmanuel Cabrera Cepeda has been charged with Aggravated Murder with a special allegation of use of a deadly weapon after his estranged wife was found shot to death inside her Astumbo home Sunday night.
The victim has been identified as 35-year old Emma Catapang Cepeda.
According to GPD Public Information Officer A.J. Balajadia police were responding to a report of a “man with a gun” at a home on Karetan Trosu street in Astumbo Dededo at about 7pm Sunday night when they found Emmanuel Cepeda “holding a gun.” Inside the house Balajadia says officers found a woman who “appeared to have been shot” and was “non-responsive and had no pulse.”
In Superior Court this afternoon [Monday] Emmanuel was formally charged with Aggravated Murder and a Special allegation of Possession and Use of a Deadly Weapon in the Commission of a Felony. According to the Magistrate’s complaint, Cepeda told Police that “he had gone to the residence with the intent to shoot the victim,” and he said that he “killed the victim.” The complaint also alleges that Emmanuel Cepeda told officers that he “intended to kill himself after he killed the victim but the firearm malfunctioned.”
Superior Court Judge Alberto Tolentino ordered him held on $1-million dollar cash bail.
PNC has learned that Emmanuel Cepeda had been on pre-trial release and was set to appear in court on Wednesday (Feb. 20) on two counts of felony terrorizing with a special allegation of use of a deadly weapon (knife). Court records also reveal that Emma Cepeda had filed a Protection Order against Emmanuel Cepeda on behalf of her and her three children. The PO was filed on October 23 and a temporary order was granted immediately. A Permanent Order was granted on November 9th.
