Guam – Thousands of Guam residents are surely resting up on this government holiday, a day off after fun-filled festivities at the Ypao Beach Park yesterday for the annual GovGuam Labor Day Picnic. Governor Joseph Flores Beach Park was packed. Sidewalks in surrounding areas were filled with cars parked up and down the Tumon strip as Guam Police directed traffic. GovGuam employees and their families all joined in the massive picnic in honor of their hard work. It was hot and raining at times, but that didn’t stop everyone from celebrating with games like tug-o-war and cultural performances. Governor Eddie Calvo was also on hand to honor the GovGuam employees as well as private sector employees.
“Now is a time to enjoy. The GovGuam family, the workforce, all our private sector partners, you know what makes Guam special, aside from what I said about our faith in the good Lord, but also family, and this is now our family. The GovGuam workforce family. Our island family. So with that, God bless you, happy labor day, have a good time and let’s see if we can gain at least 10 lbs today.”
All GovGuam departments, except for critical services, is closed for the Labor Day holiday, but will reopen Tuesday morning.
